Sustainable and vegan

Apple leather is an innovative and sustainable alternative to conventional leather. In addition to PU plastic, which artificial leather is usually made of, it is also made from the leftovers from apple juice and apple sauce production, which would normally be disposed of or burned. This process creates a vegan, environmentally friendly material that feels just as high-quality and luxurious as real leather. Compared to artificial leather that does not contain apple waste, water consumption is reduced by around a third, the contribution to global warming by around 40% and other dimensions that have an impact on our planet, such as ozone formation, are also reduced by 30%.

We often hear that animal leather is a natural product that is biodegradable and environmentally neutral. Apart from the animal suffering it causes, this is not the case at all. Animal leather production causes between 65 and 150kg of CO2 per m2 of material, while apple leather only causes 2.34kg of CO2 per m2 of material. In addition, the production of animal leather uses about 4x more water than apple leather production. Not to mention the environmental consequences such as water pollution from tanning.

Apple Leather – Sustainability begins with a decision

Today, there are already many exciting alternatives to animal leather, such as cactus leather. However, we have deliberately chosen apple leather, which is produced "on our doorstep", namely in Italy, and is available in many qualities and colors.

Apple leather is a high-quality synthetic leather that is made largely from natural materials. Depending on the quality, the proportion of natural fibers can be up to 50%. So it is not a purely natural material, but it is a significant step towards sustainability.

Every journey begins with the first step - and ours leads to a future in which we stay in tune with the times. We aim to continue to search for innovative, purely natural materials that have an even better ecological balance, do not harm animals and make our world a little bit better.

How do you care for an apple leather bag?

Apple leather is a very easy-care material. Most everyday marks can be easily removed with either a microfiber cloth and a little dishwashing liquid or with a damp cotton pad and a drop of dishwashing liquid. For all other stains, you can ask us and we will find out how we can help you.

To care for the metal parts on your MILLA VON COSY bag, a small cleaning cloth is included with which you can polish the metal parts.
